Pedagogical Activism and Artistic Communities in Southern Italy

ALAgroup explored self-directed educational communities in southern Italy, including a visit to ex Asilo Filangieri in Naples and the Free Home University (FHU) in Lecce, established by Alessandra Pomarico. Participants at FHU, such as Cafausici (Emilio Fantin, Luigi Negro, Giancarlo Norese, Cesare Pietroiusti, Luigi Presicce), launched initiatives like a nighttime beach walk in Otranto and created Fondazione Lac O Le Mon in San Cesario. In Castiglione d'Otranto, Luigi Coppola leads the Parco Comune dei Frutti Minori, transforming waste sites. At Gagliano Leuca station, Paolo Mele and Luca Coclite founded Lastation. In Latronico, A Cielo Aperto, curated by Bianco-Valente and Pasquale Campanella, involves locals in artistic endeavors. Radical Intention operates Decompression Camp in Corniolo, while Stalker pursues urban activism in Rome. The article cautions against the co-optation by neoliberal frameworks.
