Peccioli to Open Italy's First Public Open-Air Contemporary Art Museum
Located between Pisa and Volterra, Peccioli, a town in Tuscany, is set to unveil Macca, which will be Italy's inaugural public open-air contemporary art museum, drawing inspiration from renowned institutions like MoMA. This initiative was revealed on July 10, 2022, with backing from the Milan-based agency AbSoluta. Peccioli's journey into contemporary art began in 1991 with the exhibition 'Specie di spazi,' curated by Rita Selvaggio, showcasing artists such as Vittorio Messina and Hidetoshi Nagasawa. The town has since incorporated additional pieces like 'Presenze' and 'Endless Sunset,' culminating in nearly seventy installations by July 2022. The museum, established by the Municipality of Peccioli alongside Belvedere Spa and Fondazione Peccioliper, will be located in the historic center and is in search of a director.
