Pàulla Scàvazzini opens duo show in New York and solo in Rio
Brazilian visual artist Pàulla Scàvazzini (born 1990, São José dos Campos) is presenting two exhibitions simultaneously: the duo show "Between Utopias and Abyss" at Kaliner Gallery in New York (April 23–May 30, 2026) and the solo exhibition "Língua de Fogo" at Centro Cultural Correios in Rio de Janeiro (May 27–July 4, 2026). The New York show, curated by Maryana Kaliner, features 20 works developed during Scàvazzini's residency at Residency Unlimited, alongside glass sculptures by Austin Fields (born 1988, Los Angeles). The Rio solo, curated by Shannon Botelho, includes 15 works and extends the New York investigation within an institutional context. Scàvazzini's practice explores the boundaries between architecture, body, and painting, using tropical botanical imagery to create immersive environments that oscillate between landscape and ruin, addressing environmental and social collapse. Her works feature strong gesturality, intense color fields, and site-specific installations where paint extends onto walls and floors. The artist holds degrees in Visual Arts, Art Education, and Architecture and Urbanism, and has participated in residencies at Cité Internationale des Arts (Paris), Zaratan (Lisbon), and School of Visual Arts (New York). Her work is in public collections including Museu de Arte Brasileira (MAB-FAAP) and Museu Inimá de Paula.
