Paul Weller Covers Billie Eilish on New BBC Live Album

publication · 2026-04-24

Paul Weller, 67, is releasing 'Weller At The BBC Volume 2', a compilation of live performances recorded for the BBC between 2008 and 2024. The album includes covers of other artists' songs, notably Billie Eilish's 'What Was I Made For?' from the 2023 Barbie film. Weller praised the song, saying he heard it often at home because his youngest daughter loves Eilish, and found the melody beautiful and lyrics clever. The Modfather, originally from Woking, Surrey, has stopped drinking and feels more appreciative of his music. He recalls his first gig at Woking Working Men's Club, playing to about 10 people who complained about the noise until after bingo. His studio in Ripley, Surrey, provided a creative space for some sessions. Weller, now a grandfather of two, downplays being a cool granddad, saying he is 'just another granddad' and enjoys seeing the next generation. He shares music with his eight children but does not try to educate them, noting they listen to new and obscure old tunes without categorizing as his generation did.
