Paul McCarthy's Dual Retrospective in Belgium

Paul McCarthy is the subject of two major exhibitions in Belgium in 2007. The first, 'Air Born' (May 27 – October 28), at the Middelheim Museum in Antwerp, is an open-air sculpture park featuring eight inflatable sculptures by McCarthy, five of which were produced for the event. These works are displayed alongside pieces by Rodin, Maillol, Panamarenko, Carl Andre, Joep Van Lieshout, and Franz West. The second exhibition, 'Head shop/Shop Head. Works 1966-2006' (October 12 – February 17, 2008), at S.M.A.K. in Ghent, is a retrospective organized in collaboration with the Moderna Museet in Stockholm and the ARoS Aarhus Kunstmuseum. It presents a broad selection of McCarthy's works spanning forty years. The exhibitions provide an opportunity to reflect on McCarthy's creative process, which incorporates various modes of expression, references, and materials through dynamic repetition.
