Paul Léautaud's Secret Journal Published Posthumously

publication · 2026-04-24

A previously unpublished private journal by French writer Paul Léautaud (1872-1956) has been released by Mercure de France. The Journal Particulier was written between 1933 and 1939, during the early years of his relationship with Marie Dormoy, alongside his monumental Journal littéraire. Léautaud inscribed the entries on yellowish scraps of paper that he pasted inside a copy of the literary review N.R.F. dated October 1, 1932. The publication was made possible by Edith Slive, who recently published an essay on Léautaud that first discussed this 1933 text.
