Paul Gauguin Retrospective at National Gallery of Australia
The National Gallery of Australia in Canberra will host "Gauguin’s World: Tōna Iho, Tōna Ao" from June 29 to October 7, 2024, marking the first major Australian exhibition of post-impressionist Paul Gauguin. The show traces his career from Impressionist beginnings in 1873 to his final years in French Polynesia, where he produced iconic Tahitian visions with a new color palette. Curated by Henri Loyrette, the exhibition includes oil paintings, ceramics, wood reliefs, and woodcuts. Gauguin arrived in the Marquesas in September 1901, knowing his journey was ending, and continued developing his art while writing a retrospective of his career. The exhibition offers a rare opportunity to explore the complexity of his practice.
