Paul Gauguin Exhibition 'Noa Noa Diary' Coming to Rome

A major exhibition on Paul Gauguin, titled 'Gauguin. Il diario di Noa Noa e altre avventure,' opens at the Museo Storico della Fanteria in Rome on September 6, 2025, running until January 26, 2026. The show features over 100 works, including drawings, woodcuts, and diary pages, focusing on the post-impressionist master's spiritual universe and his fascination with Polynesian culture. Highlights include lithographs from 'Avant et Après,' Gauguin's personal notebook, and twelve color lithographs by Vincent van Gogh, reflecting their personal and professional relationship. Also on view is the monotone drawing 'Studio di braccia, mani e piedi,' saved by the artist before Polynesian religious authorities ordered his belongings burned. The exhibition explores Gauguin's anatomical studies, particularly hands as emotional expression, and his dialogue with contemporaries like Émile Bernard.
