Paul B. Preciado's Film 'Orlando, My Political Biography' Premieres in UK Cinemas
The UK and Irish cinemas will showcase Paul B. Preciado's inaugural film, 'Orlando, My Political Biography' (2023), beginning July 5, 2024. This documentary-fiction blend reinterprets Virginia Woolf's 1928 work 'Orlando' and highlights the stories of over 20 trans and nonbinary individuals. Created on a limited budget by ARTE, the film secured the Teddy Award for Best Documentary Film at the 2023 Berlinale. Preciado opted for this adaptation instead of a traditional biographical documentary proposed by ARTE. Featuring nonprofessional actors discussing their gender-affirming surgery experiences, it includes appearances by Pierre et Gilles and Virginie Despentes. Preciado drew inspiration from philosophy seminars and AIDS video activism. He previewed the film at London’s Barbican in December 2023, addressing representational politics.
