Patrizia Giambi's 'Carta dei 25 anni' at Galleria Riccardo Crespi, Milan

exhibition · 2026-05-05

Patrizia Giambi presents 'Carta dei 25 anni', the fourth installment of the Wunderkammer project at Galleria Riccardo Crespi in Milan, running until October 15, 2016. Curated by Marco Scotini, the exhibition revisits Giambi's 1991 debut work 'Senza titolo' (four chairs), which critic Roberto Daolio described as 'pensieri seduti' (seated thoughts). The new installation inverts the relationship between word and object: whereas the earlier work treated the object as a shadow of words, here the word becomes hostage to the object. Giambi reflects on the 'technological language' era (as termed by Pasolini) through photographic prints of the word 'sedia' (chair) in various languages, cut into paper shapes and layered on wooden frames to form a totem-like tower. A second installation comprises one hundred paper pop-up miniature chairs descending into space. After 25 years, the object now produces the word.
