Patrizia Asproni steps down as president of Fondazione Marino Marini

institutional · 2026-04-27

Patrizia Asproni has resigned as president of the Fondazione Marino Marini in Florence, a role she held since 2016. She is succeeded by Carlo Ferdinando Carnacini. Asproni chose not to seek a second term, arguing that second mandates in public institutions hinder evolution and consolidation, calling Italy's tendency toward prolonged tenure 'devastating for culture.' During her tenure, she established the 'visiting director' program, an annual director from an international museum overseeing exhibitions; launched the Playable Museum Award for interactive museum projects; and oversaw the Kinder Art – Artisti Apprendisti educational wing. She notes that over six years, including 2.5 years of mandatory closure, the museum organized 18 exhibitions and 123 conferences, attracted over 60,000 visitors, completed major renovation and climate control work, ended with a significant budget surplus, and eliminated all debt. Asproni will continue her cultural promotion work as president of Fondazione Industria e Cultura and in a new European role with the Horizon program.
