Patrick Jouin's Design Retrospective at Centre Pompidou

The Centre Pompidou in Paris hosted a comprehensive exhibition of French designer Patrick Jouin from February 17 to May 24, 2010. Born in 1967 and trained at ENSCI (École nationale supérieure de création industrielle), Jouin worked for Philippe Starck before founding his own agency in 1998. His clients include Ligne Roset, Cassina, Alessi, and Renault, for whom he designed furniture, lighting, tableware, and automobiles. In the 2000s, he expanded into interior architecture for Alain Ducasse's restaurants (notably the Plaza Athénée), museum design (the Audiolab), and iconic products like the Nightcove sleep aid for Zyken and the Vélib bike-sharing system for Paris in 2007. The exhibition highlighted Jouin's understated style, which combines visual simplicity with maximum utility and a strong emphasis on technological innovation. Notable works include the OneShot stool (2004), made using stereolithography—a laser-curing technique that eliminates molding—and a restaurant chair for the Eiffel Tower, which uses carbon fiber for structural cantilever. The show's engaging scenography featured a central screen with a film of Jouin explaining his creations from sketch to production, offering insight into applied arts creation.
