Patrick Hamilton's 'HIPERASIA' at Galería Casado Santapau critiques neoliberalism through Chinese bazaar artifacts.

exhibition · 2026-04-20

Chilean artist Patrick Hamilton will unveil his third solo exhibition, 'HIPERASIA,' at Galería Casado Santapau in Madrid from April 16 to June 6, 2026. This exhibition tackles pressing contemporary themes such as the post-capitalist crisis, unemployment driven by AI, inequality, and environmental degradation, drawing inspiration from the Chinese bazaars of Madrid. It comprises two distinct series: 'Pinturas Abrasivas,' which utilizes red and black sandpapers to reference Neo-Geo and Op Art, and 'Equilibrios,' featuring unstable constructions made from diverse materials. Theorist Nelly Richard describes Hamilton's art as engaging with 'archaeological memory,' resonating on a global scale. He received a Guggenheim Fellowship in 2007, established the Visual Arts School at Universidad Diego Portales in 2006, and has exhibited extensively across Latin America, the U.S., and Europe.
