Patrick Hamilton's Hiperasia at Casado Santapau Explores Global Tensions

exhibition · 2026-04-20

Casado Santapau gallery in Madrid presents the third solo exhibition of Chilean artist Patrick Hamilton, titled Hiperasia, running until June 6. The show features recent works that blend art, economics, contemporary history, and cultural criticism. Hamilton reworks geometric abstraction and minimalism to address the consequences of the current economic system, using archival images and diverse materials. The exhibition draws from his daily experience with Chinese bazaars and shops in Madrid, which he treats as contemporary cabinets of curiosities. Two series are on view: Pinturas Abrasivas, compositions made with sandpaper in red and black tones referencing Neo-Geo and Op art from the 1970s and 1980s; and the photographic series Equilibrios, depicting precarious constructions of tools, costume jewelry, amulets, and tourist postcards in trompe-l'oeil style.
