Past Disquiet Exhibition Opens at Zeitz MOCAA
On August 3, 2023, Zeitz MOCAA in Cape Town launched an exhibition called 'Past Disquiet.' This documentary showcase is based on the work of Kristine Khouri and Rasha Salti, highlighting four significant 'museums in solidarity' from the 1970s and 1980s. Featured events include the International Art Exhibition for Palestine from 1978 in Beirut, the International Museum of the Resistance 'Salvador Allende,' and initiatives like Artists Contre/Against Apartheid and Art for the People of Nicaragua. A standout element is Art Against Apartheid, which started in 1978 by Ernest Pignon-Ernest and Antonio Saura. Collaborating institutions include the University of the Western Cape and Robben Island Museum. Koyo Kouoh, Zeitz MOCAA's Executive Director, views it as vital for expanding art history.
