Passo dopo Passo: Three Emerging Curators at Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo
The exhibition "Passo dopo Passo" at Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo in Turin, curated by Tenzing Barshee, Molly Everett, and Dorota Michalska, explores the relationship between word and image through works by Fortunato Depero, Salvo, Luigi Ontani, Cady Noland, Turi Rapisarda, Elisa Caldana, and Carla Accardi. The title derives from Depero's book "A passo romano" (1943). Depero's "Esercizi di lingua inglese" (1928-1930) notebook, created during his New York trip, features English vocabulary arranged into swastikas and Futurist iconography. Salvo's hotel stationery drawings document his travels and Mediterranean landscape idealization. Ontani's "InveroSIMILE" (1999-2000) mask fuses two sardonic smiles. Noland's "Corral Gates" (1989) partially open gate suggests dispersed themes. Caldana's "The Island Behind the Horizon" (2015) video-map adopts a sea observer's perspective on human movement toward an uncertain future. Accardi's "Rosso Giallo" (1968) painting on sicofoil frames the exhibition. The show runs until October 16, 2016.
