Pasolini's Riverbank Photos on Display Across Perugia

exhibition · 2026-04-27

A series of 38 photographs depicting Pier Paolo Pasolini along the Tiber River in the 1950s is being exhibited across Perugia until June 16, 2022. The images, taken by Gabriella Drudi and Toti Scialoja, show Pasolini in hieratic poses, identifying with the water. The exhibition, titled 'Pasolini acquatico e felice' (a line from a Sandro Penna poem), is a diffuse public display on advertising posters throughout the city, accompanied by a smaller indoor show at Paradiso 518 (Corso Cavour 9) featuring graphic and textual materials. The initiative is part of the 'Acque Dolcissime' project, organized by Teatro Stabile dell'Umbria and Edicola 518, a renowned kiosk in Perugia's historic center known for its curated selection of artist books, self-publications, independent magazines, and essays. Antonio Brizioli of Edicola 518 described the effort as an 'ecphrasis in reverse,' translating months of reasoning into a sequence of images that exemplify, absorb, and relaunch them.
