Pascale Marthine Tayou designs kits for Milan's A.S. Velasca

artist · 2026-05-04

Cameroonian artist Pascale Marthine Tayou has designed the 2018/2019 season kits for A.S. Velasca, an amateur football club in Milan. The collaboration was facilitated by French activewear brand Le Coq Sportif, which also sponsors Fiorentina and Saint-Étienne. Tayou created limited-edition jerseys, the club's font, membership card, and captain's armband. The jerseys were unveiled on September 22, 2018, during a 90-minute tram ride through Milan. Tayou, born in 1967, is a leading post-colonial artist represented by Galleria Continua. He participated in the Venice Biennale in 2005 and 2009, and his sculpture is a symbol of Milan's CityLife district. The project emphasizes football as pure play and creativity, merging art, fashion, and sport. Nike previously engaged Kim Jones and Virgil Abloh for football-themed capsule collections in 2018, while Puma collaborated with ten artists from the Creative African Network for the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations.
