Pascal Pinaud's 'Sept ans de réflexion' at Galerie Nathalie Obadia

Pascal Pinaud's exhibition 'Sept ans de réflexion' (Seven Years of Reflection) runs from January 12 to February 25, 2012, at Galerie Nathalie Obadia in Paris. The show presents both new and recent works across four rooms, including pieces from ongoing series such as 'Tissus d'ameublement' (Upholstery Fabrics) and 'Laques automobiles' (Automobile Lacquers). Pinaud's practice involves collecting and diverting materials from their original purposes through non-pictorial interventions. A highlight is 'Arbre à fèves' (Bean Tree), a 3.5-meter resin tree covered with over 20,000 fèves (porcelain trinkets from Galette des Rois cakes) collected over five years, merging popular culture with art. Other works include Delft plates mounted on walls, decorative fabrics on wood that simulate painting, colored or sandblasted glass hooks defying balance, and 'Feux' (Fires), neon pieces resembling enlarged gas flames shown for the first time.
