Pascal Bernier's 'Jeux de massacre' at MAC's, Grand-Hornu
The Musée des arts contemporains (MAC's) at Grand-Hornu, Belgium, presents 'Jeux de massacre', a trio exhibition featuring Pascal Bernier alongside Patrick Codenys (Front 242) and Harun Farocki. Curated by Denis Gielen, the show references a fairground game of throwing balls at cans. Bernier, born in Brussels in 1960, is known for his 'Accidents de chasse'—taxidermied animals bandaged with Velpeau to save them from a second death. Emerging alongside the Young British Artists, his works explore paradoxes of life/death, conservation/destruction, and horror/beauty, engaging with science, image industry, and pornography. Key pieces include 'Bi Polar perversion II' (a synthetic bear mating with a taxidermied polar bear), 'Fitness Addiction' (a skeleton working out), and 'Farms Sets' (mirrored boxes with animals). The exhibition runs from March 22 to June 30, 2009.
