Parto Atelier Builds Vaulted Greenhouse to Foster Edible Lisbon
Parto Atelier has completed "From Sky to Table," a community-driven agricultural infrastructure in Lisbon's Murtas and S. João de Brito neighborhoods. The project, anchored at the Aquilino Ribeiro Machado Horticultural Garden and Park, was catalyzed by the Bip-Zip program, a Lisbon City Council initiative supporting priority intervention areas. A vaulted greenhouse with vertical farming units serves as the centerpiece, surrounded by a pedagogical vegetable garden, natural lake, fruit trees, and composting stations. The design includes a circular outdoor forum for workshops and gatherings, with sliding doors connecting the greenhouse to the park. The layout reconfigures the park's northwest tip, with almond trees framing the approach from a bicycle path. The project aims to create a replicable model for urban food systems, reducing distance between citizens and their food sources while fostering social ties and collective autonomy.
