Parque Geminiano Momesso: New Open-Air Museum in Paraná Decentralizes Brazilian Art Circuit
In Ibiporã, Paraná, the Parque Geminiano Momesso opened as an open-air museum, inaugurated with Yutaka Toyota's sculpture 'Espaço Arco-Íris'. Created by collector Orandi Momesso, the park features 12 planned pavilions, two already revealed: one dedicated to sculptor Angelo Venosa and another housing pre-Columbian funerary urns, folk art, and sacred art. A temporary exhibition space named after painter Raphael Galvez is also planned. Architecture by Reinach Mendonça. The park, on a 1.355 million m² farm with 121,000 m² of virgin forest along the Rio Tibagi, will display about 80% of Momesso's collection, which includes works by Oswaldo Goeldi, Alfredo Volpi, Iberê Camargo, Emanoel Araújo, José Resende, Nicolas Vlavianos, Rubem Valentim, and Victor Brecheret. Momesso started collecting five decades ago, focusing on Brazilian and foreign artists who worked in Brazil. The park is managed by the non-profit Instituto Luciano Momesso, named after his late nephew. Future plans include a reception, restaurant, shop, library, auditorium, and three more pavilions. Public opening is scheduled for 2025.
