Parmacotto funds restoration of Catacombs of San Gennaro in Naples
Italian food brand Parmacotto has signed an agreement with La Paranza cooperative to fund the restoration of the Vestibolo Superiore of the Catacombs of San Gennaro in Naples with €30,000. The catacombs, located in the Sanità district, date back to the 2nd century AD and feature early Christian paintings. La Paranza, which already managed the Catacomb of San Gaudioso, won a tender from Fondazione con il Sud in 2008 to restore and open the site to the public. Parmacotto CEO Andrea Schivazappa cited a shared story of rebirth with the cooperative. The restoration, led by Michele Gargiulo, will involve micro-injections of hydraulic mortar and cleaning of painted surfaces. The catacombs are ranked third on TripAdvisor among Italy's most appreciated sites and expect to reach 100,000 visitors by year-end.
