ParliamentRAG: Authority-Aware RAG for Italian Parliamentary Proceedings

A recent study presents ParliamentRAG, a Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) system tailored for the Italian Chamber of Deputies. This system tackles three particular challenges associated with applying RAG to parliamentary records: the prevalence of frequent speakers, the challenge of assessing speaker expertise by topic, and the risk of misattributing citations in politically sensitive materials. Its main innovation is a topic-sensitive authority model that evaluates each speaker's influence based on the current inquiry, incorporating clear factors like profession, education, and past contributions. Upon receiving a user query, the system retrieves pertinent speech segments, identifies experts relevant to the topic from various parliamentary factions, and compiles a summary.
