Park Associati to Transform Milan's Central Station Area with Green Tower

architecture-design · 2026-04-27

Park Associati, the Milan-based architecture firm founded by Filippo Pagliani and Michele Rossi, has unveiled Mi.C (Milano Centrale), a major urban regeneration project for the area around Milan's Central Station. The project replaces the former Hotel Michelangelo, a 1970s red brick building that served as a COVID-19 convalescence center during the pandemic, with a 22-story, nearly 100-meter-tall office tower composed of two adjacent towers rising from a curtain wall volume. The design features a dynamic glass facade with cusps that change inclination as they gain height. The project will reclaim 22,000 square meters of public space, plant 65 new trees, and create 108 underground parking spaces. It will employ 2,200 people in the tower and 200 construction workers. The concept of Urban Mining will be applied, reusing materials like concrete from the demolished structure. Green features include diversified gardens, shared green spaces, pedestrian-friendly pathways, and improved bike-sharing and taxi services. The surrounding streets—via Doria, via Scarlatti, via Lepetit, and piazza Duca d'Aosta—will be reorganized. Construction is set to begin in 2023 and finish by 2026, in time for the Winter Olympics. The agreement involves property owner Finleonardo, the Municipality of Milan, ATS, ASST Milano Nord, and the Prefecture.
