Paris Photo 2011 Moves to Grand Palais, Focuses on Mutations and African Photography

festival-fair · 2026-04-23

This year, Paris Photo 2011 is moving to the Grand Palais for the first time, and the director, Julien Frydman, thinks this will really boost its focus on contemporary photography. The fair aims to blend photography with art history in a very open way, featuring a lecture series called 'Mutations,' organized by Chantal Pontbriand. There will also be talks about how institutions like Tate in London, the International Center of Photography in New York, and the Musée de l'Élysée in Lausanne handle acquisitions. Notably, collector Arthur Walther, known for his African and Asian photos and modern German works, will be highlighted. African photography will play a big role, with involvement from various contributors. Plus, to celebrate its 15th anniversary, the fair will launch the Prix du Livre Paris Photo and showcase Ed Van der Elsken's 1956 book, 'Love on the Left Bank,' curated by Markus Shaden.
