Paris Launches International Competition for Eiffel Tower Restyling Ahead of 2024 Olympics
On January 2018, an international competition was launched by the City of Paris for architects and urban planners to reimagine the Eiffel Tower area. This initiative, titled "Grand Site Tour Eiffel: découvrir, approcher, visiter," is in partnership with SETE and seeks to improve the experience and accessibility for the over 20 million visitors each year. The redesign must adhere to the eco-friendly policies established by former mayor Bertrand Delanoë, emphasizing metro access, gardens, seating, security, and online ticket sales. The estimated budget stands at around 300 million euros, with the winner to be revealed in spring 2019 and renovations expected to be completed prior to the 2024 Olympic Games. Additionally, the Île-de-France region plans to allocate 3 billion euros from Olympic funds for enhancements in livability.
