Paris Launch of Making Art Global (Part 2) on Magiciens de la Terre
On Thursday, July 11, 2013, at 7 PM, Afterall Books is set to launch "Making Art Global (Part 2): 'Magiciens de la Terre' 1989" at castillo/corrales in Paris. The event will include a talk with authors Lucy Steeds and Pablo Lafuente, led by moderator Annie Cohen-Solal. This book explores the landmark 1989 exhibition "Magiciens de la Terre," which featured over 100 artists, with half coming from outside the Western art scene, challenging traditional narratives. It contains photos, gallery designs, and essays from Steeds, Lafuente, and Jean-Marc Poinsot, along with unpublished pieces from curator Jean-Hubert Martin and Gayatri Chakravorty Spivak. Cohen-Solal, who teaches at Université de Caen Basse-Normandie, is also working on a biography of Mark Rothko.
