Paris Internationale, The Salon, and Off Screen: Top Collateral Fairs During Art Basel 2024

festival-fair · 2026-04-26

During Art Basel 2024 in Paris, three collateral fairs stood out for quality and ambition. Paris Internationale returned to the Central Bergère building in the Grand Boulevard area, an 1911 structure stripped of plaster and redesigned by Swiss interior designers Christ & Gantenbein. Despite some layout confusion, the fair celebrated its tenth anniversary with high-caliber works and ambitious galleries. The Salon, a debut European event by New York's non-profit New Art Dealers Alliance (NADA) in partnership with French curatorial collective The Community, took place in a former railway training center in the 10th arrondissement. It featured around fifty invited galleries, predominantly North American, with pleasant cafes, common areas, gardens, and courtyards. Off Screen, dedicated to the image, returned to a brutalist car park in Paris, a former art deco garage with spiral ramps and mezzanines. Each gallery presented a single artist, with standout installations by Chantal Ackerman (honoree on the fifth floor), Alfredo Jaar, and others. The fairs reflect Paris's growing art market strength, with high-quality presentations and unique spaces, contrasting with London's shrinking satellite fair scene.
