Paris Emergency Shelter Transforms Former Military Bakery
The 'La Boulangerie' emergency shelter in Paris, designed by Francois Brugel Architectes Associes and Atelier RITA, opened in 2025. Covering 10,600 m², the project converted a former military bakery on Boulevard Ney into a 400-bed facility. Originally used as an emergency accommodation centre since 2004 under the 'Grand Froid' plan, the building had offered Spartan conditions. The renovation was commissioned by ADOMA, with GTM as general contractor. Project managers included Adrien Fau, Anaïs Chaumier, and Anaïs Blanchard. The shelter's interior, with its rows of bunk beds, served as the setting for the 2024 film *La vie de Souleymane*, starring Abou Sangaré as a Guinean asylum seeker. The project is categorized as residential and social housing architecture.
