Paris Art Scene in December 2001: Matt Mullican, Nicolas Moulin, and Others

In early December 2001, the Marais-Beaubourg district of Paris hosted a series of exhibitions. Claude Lévêque presented a blue, glacial installation at Galerie Valentin, contrasting with his previous dark show at Galerie Yvon Lambert. Nicolas Moulin showed digitally sealed Haussmannian buildings at Galerie Valentin in November, creating a suffocated cityscape. Matt Mullican, little seen in France since his Grenoble show, exhibited at Galerie Nelson works resembling archaeological digs from a future that unearths our present. Simon Willems showed decadent paintings at Galerie Polaris, Françoise Vergier presented ceramics at Galerie Papillon-Fiat, and Allan Sekula's slideshow "Waiting for Tears Gas" at Galerie Michel Rein documented protesters at the WTO conference in Seattle. Jean-Marc Bustamante exhibited at Galerie Nathalie Obadia and Galerie Daniel Templon. At Galerie Laage-Salomon, Gabrielle Maubrie invited artists including Judi Wertheim and Leandro Erlich (who showed photos of Havana with fake snow), and Claude Lévêque contributed a neon reading "Vous allez tous mourir." David Shrigley showed at Galerie Yvon Lambert.
