Paris 2024 Olympics: 5 Key Architectural Projects Reshaping the City

Paris is leveraging the 2024 Olympics to accelerate long-term urban development, focusing on reusing existing buildings, extending the event beyond city limits, and integrating with the Grand Paris Express metro. Five key projects illustrate this strategy. Dominique Perrault Architecture's masterplan for the Olympic and Paralympic Village in Saint-Denis, Saint-Ouen, and Île-Saint-Denis will house 16,000 athletes in wooden residences, later converted for 6,000 residents and workers. Kengo Kuma & Associates' Saint-Denis Pleyel station, a major Grand Paris Express hub, features a nine-story origami-like design with inclined planes for barrier-free access. Gustafson Porter + Bowman's OnE project will create a 54-hectare park around the Eiffel Tower, linking Trocadéro to École Militaire by 2026. Herzog & de Meuron's Tour Triangle, a controversial triangular skyscraper at Porte de Versailles, will include a luxury hotel and coworking spaces, designed to appear as a thin blade from the north. LAN Architecture's renovation of the Grand Palais, treating it as a city within a city, will adapt its diverse spaces for a contemporary museum complex, all completed in time for the 2024 Games.
