Paris 2024 Olympic Medals to Contain Eiffel Tower Fragments

other · 2026-04-26

For the first time in Olympic history, the medals for the Paris 2024 Games will incorporate fragments of the Eiffel Tower. The historic Parisian jewelry house Chaumet, part of the LVMH group, designed the medals, which feature an hexagonal shape, grooved edges, and a piece of iron from the iconic monument on the obverse, while the reverse shows the Eiffel Tower from below with the year of the Games. The metal pieces come from parts removed or modified during past restorations, preserved by the Société d'Exploitation de la Tour Eiffel. Paris 2024 President Tony Estanguet stated the goal was to create unique medals bearing the signature of Paris, combining the strongest symbol of the Games with the quintessential symbol of Paris and France. Jean-François Martins, President of the Société d'Exploitation de la Tour Eiffel, said the medal's metal gives it a historic character and pays homage to Pierre de Coubertin, a contemporary of Gustave Eiffel who visited the tower's construction site before its opening.
