Parco Museo del Teatro Brancaccio Opens in Rome with Double Solo Show
On September 8, the Parco Museo del Teatro Brancaccio opened in Rome with the double solo exhibition 'HAIKU|OLIVETTI poems' featuring Francesco Thérèse and Hiromi Suzuki. The new cultural space, adjacent to the Palazzo Brancaccio cultural hub, aims to blend theater, dance, circus, music, contemporary art, and performance. Sveva Manfredi Zavaglia, head of contemporary art projects, describes it as a sacred place where time suspends for artistic experience. The park will host educational programs and artist residencies, with a focus on meditation, yoga, and intercultural dialogue. The first international project, Art Conversation, invites artists worldwide to create site-specific works including sculptures, light installations, and street art. The opening was delayed by the COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020; a first edition of the Futuro Festival of contemporary dance took place in July. The exhibition pairs Thérèse, a video artist and assistant director, with Suzuki, a Tokyo-based poet and screenwriter. Thérèse deconstructs video into three horizontal bands in a 5:7:5 ratio, echoing haiku syllable counts, while Suzuki creates visual poems using an Olivetti typewriter found at a flea market. The show is curated by Azzurra Immediato, who notes the syncretic, metamorphic interplay between the artists' works, bridging Japan and Italy.
