Paratissima's N.I.C.E. Curatorial Course Opens Applications for Sixth Edition

institutional · 2026-05-04

The sixth edition of N.I.C.E. (New Independent Curatorial Experience), a curatorial training program organized by the Turin-based art fair Paratissima, is now accepting applications until February 28, 2019. Launched in 2014 after a year of planning, the course was conceived by Paratissima's artistic director Francesca Canfora in 2013 to address a lack of affordable, practice-oriented curatorial education in Turin, which had emerged as a contemporary art capital. The program emphasizes hands-on learning through case studies, collaborative projects, and direct involvement in curating Paratissima's main exhibitions. It comprises 132 hours of classroom instruction and 120 hours of practical experience spread over three weeks across three months: March 18–22, April 15–19, and May 13–17, 2019. To date, 65 students have completed the course, resulting in 38 exhibitions with catalogs. A new development for 2019 is the support of Fondazione CRT, which provides partial scholarships. Successful alumni include Luca Ricci, a curator from Bologna who will collaborate on the upcoming Paratissima Bologna edition during Arte Fiera (February 1–3, 2019) at the former Magazzini industriali Romagnoli, and Camilla Mineo, founder of Parma360.
