Paramount+ series 'Corpo Libero' adapts Ilaria Bernardini's novel on artistic gymnastics

The Italian television series 'Corpo Libero,' based on Ilaria Bernardini's 2010 novel, premiered on Paramount+ on October 26, 2022, in six episodes. Directed by Cosima Spender and Valerio Bonelli, the show follows a team of teenage gymnasts competing in an international event in the Italian Alps. The cast includes Antonia Truppo, Filippo Nigro, and Barbara Chichiarelli. The series was first announced in May 2020 in Vogue Italia, highlighting the collaboration between Bernardini, screenwriter Ludovica Rampoldi, director-producer Ginevra Elkann, and writer Chiara Barzini. The story, originally conceived as a film for director Martina Amati, explores themes of perfection, oppression, and the pressures of social media within the demanding world of artistic gymnastics. Bernardini also credited Lorenzo Mieli, Antonio Campo Dall'Orto, and Gabriele Immirzi for their role in creating the MTV documentary 'Ginnaste – Vite parallele,' which influenced the project. The series was previewed nationally at the Alice nella Città festival.
