exhibition · 2026-04-20

From 18 March to 11 June 2017, Para Site in Hong Kong showcased 'Soil and Stones, Songs and Souls,' an exhibition that explored geopolitical changes in East Asia through various artworks and historical artifacts. Featured artists included Jimmie Durham, Haegue Yang, Meschac Gaba, Li Ran, Lo Lai Lai, and Ocean Leung, along with curated case studies by Qu Chang and Yoonwoo Lee. The exhibition occupied three floors, including the rooftop, and examined the effects of global capital on both physical and mental landscapes, utilizing materials from folklore to propaganda. Notable pieces included Durham's 'The Isle of Man' (2016) and Yang's 'The Intermediate — Domestics of Double Eggy Swirls' (2017). Despite its structured approach, ArtReview Asia noted the narrative's complexity. The event underscored Para Site's dedication to fostering regional dialogue and archival discourse in Hong Kong.
