Paolo Woods' Haiti Photographs at BAG Gallery Parma
Paolo Woods (Netherlands, 1970), known for residential projects in the Middle East and Africa, collaborated with French journalist Robert Arnaud on a reportage about Haiti. Over three years from 2010 to 2013, Woods embedded himself in Haitian society, attending a prison inauguration, meeting elites in their villas, and mingling with ordinary people during key life events in a failed state. His work examines Haiti's body politic—communication, political parties, religious cults, NGO and UN presence—through an installation that facilitates visual information consumption and presents a more layered context than typical media portrayals. The exhibition 'State' is curated by Andrea Tinterri and Nicola Pinazzi at BAG Gallery in Parma, running until July 17, 2016.
