Paolo Sorrentino's short film for La Rinascente in Rome

other · 2026-05-04

Paolo Sorrentino has created a short film titled 'Piccole avventure romane' for La Rinascente department store on Via del Tritone in Rome, marking the store's first anniversary. The film is screened in the store's windows until October 24, with a full viewing on the first floor as part of a behind-the-scenes exhibition. The story follows two young models, Malcolm Lindberg and Michela Begal, who are left waiting in lingerie on a nighttime fashion shoot near the Colosseum when the photographer is distracted by a mysterious woman. They wander through a deserted, dreamlike Rome, encountering figures carrying large flower crowns, before dressing in the store and sharing a kiss on the terrace at dawn, interrupted by a surprise. The collaboration began a year ago when Sorrentino designed the 'Seconda Pelle' installation for the store's opening party, filling six floors of windows with dancers. Rinascente CEO Pierluigi Cocchini stated the film pays homage to Rome's contradictions. Sorrentino, reflecting on his Oscar-winning film 'La Grande Bellezza,' described his vision of a dying Rome, with flower crowns evoking mourning and dawn symbolizing rebirth—a nod to the store's name coined by Gabriele D'Annunzio in 1917. He expressed personal ties to Rinascente as a childhood landmark in Naples.
