Paolo Pibi's 'Minimi Mondi' at Antonio Colombo Gallery, Milan

exhibition · 2026-04-26

Paolo Pibi's solo exhibition 'Minimi Mondi' at Antonio Colombo Gallery in Milan presents sixteen small and medium-format paintings and installations that explore liminal spaces between reality and digital perception. The Sardinian-born artist (1987) creates hyperrealistic layers that challenge traditional painting boundaries, with custom-designed frames extending the works physically. Curated by Ivan Quaroni, the show runs through January 24 across two floors. Pibi describes his practice as emerging from a liminal condition where images evolve during the painting process, influenced by a digitally-formed gaze. He began experimenting with frames between 2018 and 2019, initially for aesthetic reasons, later as structural extensions. The artist studied at Accademia di Belle Arti di Sassari from 2006, using the period to explore photography, installation, video, and collage before committing to painting. He sees painting's slowness as a form of resistance against today's rapid visual overload. Pibi is based in Turin and is starting new works for 2026 after a productive 2025.
