Paolo Pellegrin's 'Un'antologia' at Reggia di Venaria
Over 200 photographs by Magnum Photos member Paolo Pellegrin are on display at the Reggia di Venaria Reale in an exhibition titled 'Un'antologia,' curated by Germano Celant. The show is not a closed retrospective but an open anthology, as Pellegrin describes it. The works, mostly black-and-white, are arranged thematically in rooms that alternate between black for war scenes and colored spaces for nature. No captions accompany the images, encouraging viewers to engage directly. The exhibition includes video sequences with sound effects and a final room featuring a collage of documents and small notebooks with Pellegrin's sketches and notes from his travels. Pellegrin, born in Rome in 1964, has traveled since 1989 documenting life conditions, poverty, pain, and violence with an anthropological approach. He states, 'I am not interested in stealing a photograph. I am interested, as much as possible, in living with the people I photograph.' The exhibition was held in 2021.
