Paolo Icaro's 'Unending Incipit' at Città di Castello

exhibition · 2026-05-05

The Pinacoteca Comunale of Città di Castello, a Renaissance architectural jewel housing works by Raphael, Luca Signorelli, and Giorgio Vasari, is hosting a solo exhibition of Paolo Icaro (Turin, 1936). Titled 'Unending Incipit', the show is part of the second edition of the Extramuros Project, curated by Davide Ferri and Saverio Verini and produced by Magonza editore. The exhibition connects modern and contemporary art, highlighting Icaro's key research areas: autobiographical dimension, use of written word as sculptural gesture, and installations that transcend physical limits to construct space. It reviews Icaro's contribution to the renewal of contemporary sculpture language since the 1960s and 1970s. In the Pinacoteca's garden, a new large installation 'C'era una volta' was created specifically for this show. This exhibition runs concurrently with another Icaro show at Fondazione Querini Stampalia, which pairs his work with Luigi Ghirri's research.
