Paolo Faiola's Climate Clock and ESG Artworks Promote Sustainability

artist · 2026-04-26

Environmental scientist and artist Paolo Faiola uses art to raise awareness about climate change and sustainability. In 2023, he presented the 'Orologio climatico. ESG Clock' at the 'Foresta degli Innovatori' event in Trentino, organized by VAIA to promote reforestation, and later that year at the CCTA (Climate Change Theatre Action) in Venice, a world theater festival on climate change. The clock, inspired by a digital clock in New York's Union Square, counts down to 2100, the year climate scenarios may become irreversible. It features twelve ESG goals on a beechwood base with magnetized drawings. At CCTA, Faiola performed 'Pianeta terra o Pianeta P424,' a monologue explaining how CO2 reached 424 ppm and the consequences of anthropogenic warming since 1850. In 2022, at the Festival dello Sviluppo Sostenibile organized by ASVIS, he presented the 'Gioco Planisfero SDGs' at Istituto Pietro Giordani in Parma, a game for schools made of recycled plywood, featuring climate zones and the 17 UN SDGs, aiming to educate students on climate and meteorology. Other works include 'Edna VS Edna,' a DNA-inspired painting contrasting industrial pollution (since 1850) with renewable energy, and 'Saldi Climatici,' depicting a person shopping through four seasons in 12 hours, symbolizing climate disruption. Faiola holds degrees in environmental sciences and climate change ecology, and works on ESG analysis.
