Paolo Canevari's Self-Portrait / Autoritratto at Cardi Gallery London

Cardi Gallery London presents Self-portrait / Autoritratto, a solo exhibition by Italian artist Paolo Canevari (b. 1963, Rome), running from February 22 to April 17, 2021. The show features over 30 works spanning three decades, including rubber sculptures from the 1990s and the recent series Monuments of the Memory: Landscape and Constellations, many exhibited for the first time. Occupying all four floors of the gallery's Mayfair location at 22 Grafton Street, the exhibition takes a museum-scale approach to Canevari's introspective creative process. The artist describes his use of icons, symbols, and forms from various cultures as a way to highlight their true meanings tied to dogma and power, aiming to stimulate dialogue and reaction. He emphasizes that the political nature of his work is just one interpretation, and his goal is a radical, subversive approach to art as conceived by globalized consumer society, elevating moral and ethical perception. During the exhibition, a series of online talks with artists and guided tours are scheduled.
