Paola Navone's 100% Pasta installation at Eataly Smeraldo for Milan Design Week
For Milan Design Week (April 17–23), designer Paola Navone created 100% Pasta, an aerial installation at Eataly Smeraldo in Piazza Venticinque Aprile, celebrating pasta al pomodoro. The work features oversize ingredients (tomatoes, garlic, chili peppers) and kitchen tools suspended from spaghetti, made by Fondazione Carnevale di Viareggio. It is part of the INTERNI Design Re-volution exhibition during Fuorisalone, visible until May 1. The official presentation is April 20 at 6 PM, when Navone will discuss the link between design and food, and a chef will prepare her Pasta Paola recipe, available as a special menu item. The installation includes cinematic clips and pop references on LED walls, plus a playlist by OTTO Studio. The cavea features red tables and seating by Alias, Midj, and Chaises Nicolle. Navone also designed the BiMstrò temporary café at Milano Bicocca (viale dell'Innovazione 3), part of the BiM urban redevelopment by Studio Piuarch, open until September 2024. Born in Turin in 1950, Navone graduated in architecture from Politecnico di Torino in 1973, collaborated with Casabella and Gruppo Alchimia (with Ettore Sottsass, Andrea Branzi, Alessandro Guerriero), won the Osaka International Design Award in 1983, and opened a studio in Hong Kong. She founded OTTO Studio in Milan in the late 1990s. Her iconic designs include the Ghost chair for Gervasoni, Brass suspension lamp, Prova prima plates for Richard Ginori, and numerous ceramic variations.
