Paola Marini Steps Down from Gallerie dell'Accademia di Venezia
Paola Marini has concluded her tenure as director of the Gallerie dell'Accademia di Venezia earlier than expected, as stipulated in her contract which allowed for a four-year term subject to legal expiry. In an interview with Artribune, Marini reflected on her mandate, highlighting achievements such as the museum's strong connection with the city and international scholars, and a series of temporary exhibitions including shows on Manuzio, Giambono, Philip Guston, Canova, Hayez, Cicognara, the young Tintoretto, and upcoming Georg Baselitz, as well as Leonardo da Vinci drawings. She noted the challenge of operating without dedicated offices at the museum, unlike Brera and Uffizi. Marini emphasized successful collaborations, such as the joint exhibition on 17th-century Venetian painting at Musée Fesch in Ajaccio and a Tintoretto show with the Musei Civici, which involved innovative joint procurement for transport led by Mattia Agnetti. She also oversaw the relocation of storage to the Giudecca, with a contract awarded to Apice, and the completion of Consip tenders for ticketing and bookshop concessions. The final two ground-floor rooms, dedicated to the 17th and 18th centuries, are set to be installed with a design by Tobia Scarpa, funded by Venetian Heritage. Marini expressed pride in the arrival of five new staff from the 'concorso dei 500' and a positive working atmosphere. She will remain involved until a new director is appointed.
