Paola De Pietri's Year-Long Photographic Journey Through Emilia Romagna

The exhibition 'Da inverno a inverno' (From Winter to Winter) at Peola Simondi gallery in Turin presents a photographic series by Paola De Pietri (born 1960 in Reggio Emilia). The project, published as a monograph by Marsilio in 2021, documents the landscape of Emilia Romagna's countryside over a full year, from winter 2019 to winter 2020, capturing 34 days translated into color and non-contrasted black-and-white shots reminiscent of graphite. De Pietri explains that color photos serve as interruptions to activate attention, breaking the continuous flow like jolts on train tracks. The exhibition layout alternates images with empty spaces, creating a syncopated rhythm; the artist emphasizes that white spaces are as important as the photographs, offering reflective pauses. The series explores De Pietri's deep connection to her native land through walking and observing.
