Paola Anziché on Curiosity, Ecology, and the Earth in Artistic Practice
Paola Anziché (Milan, 1975) discusses her artistic practice, which prioritizes receptivity and human relationships. After training at Brera Academy in Milan and the Städelschule in Frankfurt, her work has been exhibited at institutions including Turner Contemporary (Margate, 2017), GAM – Galleria d’Arte Moderna (Turin, 2013), MAMbo (Bologna, 2013), and Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo (Turin, 2010). She has participated in international residencies such as New Roots Foundation (Antigua, 2021), Temporars at Museum Susch (2019), and HIAP (Helsinki, 2015). In 2019, Viaindustriae Publishing released her monograph "La terra suona/The Earth Sounds." In 2022/2023, she will be an artist-in-residence at Tashkeel in Dubai, supported by Loro Piana. Anziché emphasizes curiosity as the driving force of her work, focusing on materials, relationships, and ecological awareness. She views technology as a tool that quickly becomes obsolete, preferring to see the contemporary era as one offering new perspectives. Her interest in textiles and weaving, influenced by architect Bernard Rudofsky's "Architecture without Architects," leads her to consider fabric as a form of architecture. She recounts transformative perceptual experiences at the Ear of Dionysius in Syracuse and a mosque in Azerbaijan. The interview was conducted by Davide Dal Sasso.
