Paola Angelini's Residency at Palazzo Pretorio in Prato

exhibition · 2026-05-05

Paola Angelini, a young artist from San Benedetto del Tronto, has relocated her studio to Palazzo Pretorio in Prato for the inauguration of the Pretorio Studio section curated by Veronica Caciolli. This innovative project unfolds in phases, inviting visitors to observe the artist at work throughout the creative cycle. Angelini previously engaged in a performative confrontation with Titian at the Gallerie dell'Accademia di Venezia nearly a year ago. At Palazzo Pretorio, she will interact with masterpieces by Donatello, Filippo Lippi, and Filippino Lippi, as well as the medieval building itself, to produce a collective reinterpretation of the city's identity and memory. The museum's display features special fabrics as a tribute to Prato's textile economy and history. Angelini's journey began with her 2013 project 'A guardare il cielo si diventa cielo' at Contemporanea Festival in Prato. After an initial inspection of the collection and creation of an artist's book of drawings and paintings, she will produce works forming a unified 'quadreria' that encapsulates the museum's collection. Her color palette is limited to the chromatic range used in the museum's design by Adolfo Natalini, Piero Guicciardini, and Marco Magni. The subjects of her paintings will dialogue with works in various rooms, creating a visual collage. The complete work, along with a synthesis developed in her studio, will be exhibited in a show scheduled for 2017.
