Panza Heiresses Discuss Unseen Works at Mart Exhibition

Rosa Giovanna Magnifico, widow of Giuseppe Panza di Biumo, and her daughter Giuseppina Panza di Biumo discuss the exhibition 'Focus | La materia della forma' at Mart in Rovereto, curated by Denis Isaia and Gianfranco Maraniello. The show features previously unseen works from the Panza Collection, including Richard Nonas's 'Jaw Bone' (1973), Roni Horn's 'Post Work III' (1986-87), and Bernard Joubert's 'Travail No.500' (1974). Nonas's piece required specific old wood beams shipped from the US; Horn's lead installation is securely fixed but challenging to mount; Joubert's work was acquired in Milan in 1975. Also on view is Larry Bell's 'Two Glass Walls' (1971-72) and works by Christiane Löhr. The family emphasizes their moral stance of never charging loan fees, stating 'museums are poor, must be treated well.' Four works by Sol LeWitt, Hamish Fulton, Hanne Darboven, and Joseph Kosuth remain on long-term loan to Mart. The Panzas express regret that Milan has no Panza works, citing local artists' resentment over their focus on international artists.
